My name is Darren Ellis, candidate for the California State Assembly District 4, a citizen that believes in Common Sense policies, Constitutionality, and Equality of Opportunity.
I am the son of an immigrant mother, a woman who came to the US and California for the opportunities presented by the “American Dream” and found success through her tenacity, ingenuity, and resilience. I am the grandson of a holocaust survivor, one of the few in my grandmother’s family. I am a small-town Northern California boy, married to my high school sweetheart who hails from an agricultural family. And I am a proud brother-in-law to a prominent multi-generational farming family in Southern California, the backbone of the California Economy and the people putting food on tables across the country.
I am 37 years old, a family man, former Law Enforcement officer and Legal Consultant, former entrepreneur, and current Doctoral student in Psychology with a Master’s Degree in Education. I am on the Board of Directors for a successful Restorative Justice non-profit organization based out of CDCR, and have firsthand experience in the successes of well-organized and data driven non-profit organizations on crime and harm reduction.
I believe in Parental Rights and Educational Choice. Schools in this state are failing our children, evidenced by 50% to 70% plus of students scoring below average in areas of STEM education. Students deserve a quality Education that prepares them academically and professionally for the future, not ideologically.
I am a huge proponent of social service programs for Legal Residents in need. I am of the opinion that it is beyond inappropriate to cut foster care and social service programs for Legal Californians in need while offering free healthcare, housing, food, and stipends to non-legal persons in this State, all at the expense of the taxpayer.
I believe in Fiscal Responsibility, a requirement for success in any venture (governance included), something I gained intimate understanding of in my own entrepreneurial successes. The Democrat policies in this State have garnered a $1.6 Trillion deficit in debt, bonds, and outstanding obligations that they have no long-term plan to pay for. Instead, they introduce bills and propositions to accrue further debt, continuing to kick the proverbial can down the road through unsustainable deficit spending.
I believe in Supporting and Nurturing Agriculture and Industry, a necessity for stable resources and financial security. Short-sighted legislation has resulted in the mass exodus of tax-payers and industry, and has resulted in the sale of agricultural land to foreign state entities to the detriment of the State. California Agriculture is the State's economic backbone, and is seemingly being sold out to foreign special interests.
My time in Law Enforcement, Legal Consulting, and Non-Profit work have provided first-hand knowledge and insight into the Legal System, making me a huge proponent in the Public Safety and the Rule of Law. Legislation in this State has put the public in harm’s way and benefited criminals at the expense of public safety and security. Decriminalization and Bail Reform, along with overly restrictive and unconstitutional attempts at public disarmament have negatively impacted businesses, law enforcement morale, and the safety and security of law-abiding citizens.
We have reached a time and place where the very foundation on which this country was built are at odds with the ideologies and decisions being made by career politicians and out-of-touch elected officials. It is true that our government has been hijacked by career politicians and ideologues that have forgotten the nature and construct of our Republic. Policies and Legislation being passed usurp parental rights, violate Constitutional protections, and show a blatant disregard for Americans needing advocacy, aid, and representation. The Framers were explicit in their vision for Representation, citizens of fit character who represent the best interest of their fellow citizens, greater communities, and country, “whose patriotism and love of justice will be least likely to sacrifice it to temporary or partial considerations.”
Second only to the Declaration of Independence, Federalist Paper 10 stands as the most critically important piece of written work we have in this Country. It is through this written work that we can clearly see the failure that has become our government ran by self-interested politicians, not Representatives.
It is long past time to re-establish the tenets of true Representation. I am a Citizen first and foremost, and I am running for State Assembly for my family, for my daughter’s future, and FOR YOU, my fellow citizens.
